Lincoln's Log: Eleven Month

Age : Eleven Months Quotes : Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle … Grandma Mefford brought some fun musical toys for Lincoln as an early Christmas present, and he is having a blast dancing along with the tunes. (And it doesn’t seem to bother him how a dish and a spoon could possibly run away!) Height / Weight : Growing everyday! Eating : Lincoln loves finger-feeding himself, especially bread, slices of pears, and morsels from Mommy’s plate, although he hasn’t graduated to the fork and spoon yet. Sleeping : Lincoln averages about 8 hours of sleep a night before he is awake and rearing to go. He also still usually takes a great morning nap, and sometimes an afternoon nap. Skills : Playing Peek-a-Boo (also known as juh-eh! ); Waving “Good bye”; Clapping; Throwing balls; Responding to gel , or “come here!”

Istanbul … Feels like …getting your cheeks pinched by the uncle-ish fellow on the bus, Looks like …an open air market, full of colors and textures, wanting to be explored, Smells like …rain drops on pine trees and something cooking on the stove, Tastes like …sweet pears, Auntie Ayşe’s yogurt soup, and a sneaky sip of tea, \Sounds like …a cat meowing at the door.

Istanbul … Feels like …a crowded city bus; a place where opposites meet, for even opposites go in the same direction for a little while… Looks like …head-coverings and mini-skirts hand-in-hand, sea birds floating over minarets, a busy mall, so new shoppers aren’t quite sure what to do… Smells like …discarded furniture left in the rain, smoke from cigarettes and apple-infused pipes, and sometimes like fresh, organic garden fruit brought back from the village… Tastes like …a Mediterranean buffet-- olives and goat cheese, sesame seeds, fresh bread, powdered sugar, perfumed jams, and we’ve only just finished brunch… Sounds like …tradition and pop melding into its own unique sound; Would you like some more tea? Sip, sip, sip, clink.

Phillip’s 5 senses of İstanbul . Istanbul … Feels like …I’m playing chicken with a million other drivers. Looks like …ancient and modern built on top of one another. sometimes Smells like …the sea and sometimes smells like kebabs on the grill. Tastes like… fresh vegetables in olive oil served along side those delicious kebabs. Sounds like … a booming metropolis trying to take its place among the ten largest cities of the world.
